GNU/Linux Implementation of a Position-based Routing Protocol

چکیده
The Beacon-Less Routing protocol (BLR) is a positionbased routing protocol for mobile ad-hoc networks that makes use of location information to reduce routing overhead. However, unlike other position-based routing protocols, BLR does not require nodes to periodically broadcast hello messages and thus avoids drawbacks such as extensive use of scarce battery-power, interferences with regular data transmission, and performance degradation. In this paper, we describe the implementation of BLR on a GNU/Linux platform comprising laptops equipped with 802.11b WLAN cards and GPS receivers. We present results of BLR’s performance obtained from laboratory experiments, which were conducted to validate the implementation for future planned outdoor experiments.

Performance of Zebra Routing Software
Zebra is publicly available free routing software that is distributed under GNU General Public License. It supports the following IP routing protocols: BGP-4, RIPv1, RIPv2 and OSPFv2. Zebra is unique in its design because it has a process for each protocol that runs on a multithreaded UNIX kernel. Zebra software offers true modularity since each protocol module can be upgraded or configured ind...
متن کاملPerformance Evaluation of netfilter: A Study on the Performance Loss When Using netfilter as a Firewall
Since GNU/Linux became a popular operating system on computer network routers, its packet routing mechanisms attracted more interest. This does not only concern “big” Linux servers acting as a router but more and more small and medium network access devices, such as DSL or cable access devices. Although there are a lot of documents dealing with high performance routing with GNU/Linux, only a fe...
متن کاملOn the Implementation and Performance of the (a, t) Protocol on Linux
This paper details the design and implementation of the ( ; t) protocol for ad-hoc networks on Linux. The ( ; t) protocol utilizes adaptive clustering to organize nodes into clusters in which the probability of path failure due to node movement can be bounded over time. Based on the ( ; t) cluster scheme, routes within clusters are maintained on a proactive basis while routing between clusters ...
متن کاملDesign and Implementation of the End System to Intermediate System (ES-IS) Routing Information Exchange Protocol as a Loadable Kernel Module in Linux Kernel 2.6
This paper presents a partial implementation of the ES-IS Routing Information Exchange Protocol packet processing in Linux Kernel 2.6, which is for use in conjunction with the Connectionless Network Protocol (CLNP) in Aeronautical Telecommunication Network (ATN). First, we show the data structures involved in the protocol operation. Second, we describe the map of the packet processing whose des...
متن کاملAn Implementation and Evaluation of the Ad-Hoc On-Demand Distance Vector Routing Protocol for Windows CE
There are a number of implementations of the Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol available for the Linux platform, but not for any other platform. Development of ad-hoc routing protocols has been slow because current operating systems do not provide adequate direct system-services for their implementation. This dissertation presents a design, implementation, and evaluation ...
